Want to invest in Vanguard ETFs? Here’s how

Most ETF providers offer ETFs on the biggest exchanges. Vanguard has its own trading platform, so if you’re interested specifically in Vanguard ETFs, it’s best to use their dedicated site. Otherwise, check their catalouge of ETFs, then find a broker that provides access to ETFs and the specific exchange you’re looking for.

What is Vanguard?

Vanguard Group is an investment management company. It is one of the largest fund providers in the world, close behind BlackRock’s iShares. Unlike iShares, Vanguard does not have goal-based ETFs, but it does provide roughly the same range of sector and country ETFs as iShares.

Where can I buy Vanguard ETFs?

If you’re not interested in using Vanguard’s own platform, you need to make sure you choose an online broker where:

  • ETFs are available
  • You have access to the exchange where the desired ETF is traded

For example, shares of the Vanguard Total World Stock Index Fund ETF are listed on the NYSE. So you’ll need a broker with access to this market. If you’re from Europe, check whether the broker allows you to buy US ETFs. More info here: Are US ETFs only available for US residents?
